Update on New Student Registrations at Valley View PS

Posted On Tuesday September 12, 2023

Valley View PS is in an overflow situation for the 2023-24 school year. This means that the school has reached the maximum number of students it can accommodate for certain grades and no additional classrooms, portables, or additional instructional spaces can be added for new registrants.

New registrants may be temporarily accommodated at a receiving school for the remainder of the school year and may return to their home school the following school year if accommodation is available.

For the 2023-24 school year, new registrants to Valley View PS may be received at Valley Farm PS (1615 Pepperwood Gate, Pickering).

Students attending a receiving school will be offered transportation and we are committed to providing the best possible learning experience for all students.

Overflow situations will be reviewed prior to the start of each school year. Once a student’s home school can offer accommodation, students will return to their home school by order of earliest registration date. At that time, students can also file a request to remain at the receiving school.

Durham Region and DDSB schools are experiencing a rapid increase in population as development occurs and new families move into existing neighbourhoods. Over the last four years, our student enrolment has grown from approximately 70,000 in 2019 to 79,000 in 2023.

The DDSB continues to work to accommodate enrolment growth in many ways including through yearly student accommodation plans, boundary reviews, the use of holding schools, portables, and seeking proactive approval from the Ministry of Education for the creation of new schools. However, the timing of new school construction and the approvals process does not always align with increased residential growth pressures.
